Jay Hirsch, CEO
As the son of an official from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and a real estate appraiser Jay Hirsch was destined to get involved in housing. Starting at seventeen he was appraising real estate and performed complex real estate and land appraisals during vacations from college. After obtaining a degree in Mathematics and English from the University of California at Berkeley, Jay began working as an appraiser independently and on the staff of PMA Mortgage in Long Beach. During his tenure at PMA, Jay placated his entrepreneurial drive by buying, remodeling and selling a couple of single family properties in partnership with Tom Crebbs among others. Though PMA was a great place to work and Jay was quite successful there he wanted to start a company.
In 1994, Jay convinced his father to 'retire' and start Hirsch Development, Inc. (HDI). At first HDI concentrated on appraisals and 203k consulting (an FHA home renovation program). Soon HDI broadened it's services to include consulting to non-profit corporations using federal grant programs. HDI helped to build some fine buildings that currently house elderly and disabled people. During the time at HDI Jay and some partners bought and managed some troubled apartment buildings. At some point in the future this experience could theoretically be looked back on and laughed about, but for now the best Jay can do is think of it as a learning experience.
By 1997 HDI was well established and Jay's brother David was working there. Jay felt that there may be more to the world that housing and wanted to move back to Northern California. After moving to NorCal he continued to do some appraisals, but he began to also work on web design and programming. Obtaining his real estate brokers license and working for a time with Prudential Jay learned the real estate sales business and began work on real estate websites.
In the fall of 1999 something was happening that made Jay want a regular paycheck. On October 11th Jay signed on as a web technologist with Scientific Learning, a company that builds software to help children with auditory processing difficulties that lead to speech and reading impairments. On November 13th, Jay's first child Lydia was born. Within several months Jay was the Senior Web Developer and had nearly doubled his salary. The real estate web pages were on hold, but Jay was learning a lot of programming. In 2001, Jay and his wife Grace were expecting their second child (Ruby) and decided to move back to Southern California since that is where all the grandparents live. Having picked a lucky time to own a house for a few years in the Bay Area, Jay was set to devote all his professional time to building myRealtyPage, which is the synthesis of all of his experience.
Since that time, Jay has, outside of devotion to his wife and children, been absolutely dedicated to the development of the finest web sites for real estate professionals and to absolutely perfect customer service.
